Sodium Metabisulphite (SMBS)

SMBS has multiple uses. At weaker strengths it is used in food processing industries and in mining it is used as a detoxification of Sodium Cyanide. Its appearance is White crystals or crystalline powder. Slowly oxidized to Na2SO4 (sodium Sulfate) and release sulphur dioxide (SO2) gas if exposed to air and moisture. SO2 is also released by the reaction with acid.
